Heyvin's Brain Dump

Out Drinking and In Trouble

Last Friday evening, I was in District 1 (it's the old name, I don't even know the current ward name) with Ruben, Raph, Duy and Hoang. We went to a sake brewing place called Mùa Craft Saké. Drinking home-brew sake was an interesting experience, especially when it's in Vietnam. Aside the sake bomb - which is just a DIY sake beer, we tried a couple of fruit-flavor sake drinks. They were different, but not necessarily made me want to come back for. Maybe I'll be there again with some friends, just for the novel feeling.

We finished all drinks and food at 7:15pm, so we've decided that we needed some beers. The 100-meter-away Bia Craft establishment became an obvious option. We (surprisingly) spent the next 2.5 hours there with a lot of fun. Ruben and Raph had an interesting ritual where they would ask each other to guess the release year of the songs being played. After the evening, I've learnt quite a bit about Raph and Duy, but not Hoang, as he's not really sharing much.

Nga normally doesn't sleep well when I'm out. There's always some tensions every time I'm out drinking. It also didn't end up well this time. While feeling bad about affecting her sleep, I feel like there's nothing much I could do. Reflecting on what happened, I think I can improve my expectation setting and be transparent about when I can get home. It was hard to predict this time, as I was out with a new group. But I think next time I'll be able to sense how long this group will last on the drinking table.
